Find My NAS works out how many bays you need, removes every model that misses something you need, and shows the best fit with a few to also consider, each with its market price, a storage plan and what it gives up.

Find My NAS recommends a 2 to 8 bay NAS from the data you have, how fast it grows and the years you plan for, your use, your budget and any features you need. Models that miss a hard requirement are removed first; the rest are ranked by the preferences your answers make matter and shown as a Strong match, Good match or Compromise, with the requirements each one meets and what it gives up. There is no score.

How does Find My NAS choose a NAS?
It works out how much space you need from your data, how fast it grows, the years you plan for and the free space you want to keep, and from that how many bays you need. Then it removes every model that misses a hard requirement: too few bays for that space with the drive sizes that have a market price, a market price above your budget, or a feature you ticked that the maker's spec does not confirm. The models left are ranked by the preferences your answers make matter, for example 2.5GbE for a busy household or ECC memory for a business, then by fewer spare bays and a lower market price. Each result shows a band (Strong match, Good match or Compromise), the requirements it meets and what you give up. There is no score.
Which NAS models does it cover?
It covers current NAS models with 2 to 8 bays that NTK holds the maker's specifications for. Today 59 models have a market price and can be recommended, from Synology, QNAP, UGREEN, ASUSTOR and TerraMaster. 38 more current models are not recommended today because they have no publishable market price (at least three Australian retailers and a steady price). 20 models with 2 to 8 bays are left out because NTK has not confirmed they are current models; they come back when their status is confirmed.
How does it work out how many bays I need?
Space needed = your data at the end of the plan divided by (1 minus the free space you keep). Usable space for each bay count is the drive layout (a mirror for two drives, single parity for three or more, dual parity from four for two-drive protection) minus what the NAS platform reserves, with drives at NTK market prices. The fewest bays that can hold it is your bay requirement. If you are not sure, it uses a labelled NTK starting point you can change, never a fixed bay count. What if I need more than 8 bays?
Then Find My NAS does not pick a model. Larger systems turn on rack space, redundant power, support terms and expansion enclosures that a short quiz cannot weigh, so it points you to NTK's brand guides and business NAS guides instead.
Why does each result show a market price?
Each model shows one market price: the median of the latest prices from at least three Australian retailers, each seen in the last 14 days, held back when it is moving. A model without one is listed but never recommended. The price links to NTK's review of that model where there is one, not to a retailer; confirm the price and stock with the retailer before you buy. The storage plan prices its drives the same way, so the NAS and drives total is a market total, not a quote.
Can it pick a NAS for Plex hardware transcoding?
Yes, from Plex's own NAS compatibility list only. A model Plex lists with hardware transcoding meets the requirement; a model Plex lists without it, such as the Synology DS225+ and DS425+, does software transcoding only and does not. A model Plex does not list yet whose processor has Intel Quick Sync is shown with a line saying so and to check before buying. A model with no Plex status in NTK's data does not meet the requirement.
Is this recommendation sponsored?
No. No maker pays for a place or a higher position. If a sponsored placement were ever added, it would be a separate, labelled card that cannot enter or change the ranking.
What if a NAS I buy is faulty?
