Most NBN comparison sites rank on price and download speed. Those are the two things that matter least if you run a NAS, a VPN server, security cameras or anything you need to reach from outside the house.
This tool checks each provider's own published documentation for the technical capabilities that decide whether your setup works, and tells you plainly when we couldn't verify something, instead of guessing.

We only put a plan in your main matches when the provider's own published information verifies that it meets every technical requirement you selected. If that information is missing, incomplete or contradicts itself, we show you that separately instead of guessing. An unverified requirement is never the same as a "no".
That produces four groups rather than one list. Plans that match and can be priced against each other come first, cheapest first. Plans that match but are priced on a basis we cannot line up, such as a daily rate, sit in their own group at equal weight. Plans where something could not be verified are shown as unresolved, with the specific gaps named. Only a verified failure puts a plan in the group that does not match.
The ordering inside the first group is price and nothing else. It is not a quality score, a reliability ranking or an editorial recommendation, and no plan can be moved by a commercial relationship because there is no commercial relationship in this tool.
CGNAT, or carrier-grade NAT, is how a provider shares one public IPv4 address across many households. Your router still shows a WAN address, but it sits inside the provider's network rather than on the public internet, so nothing outside can open a connection back to it. If your router's WAN address starts with 100.64 through 100.127, you are behind CGNAT.
The practical result is that port forwarding silently stops working. You can forward port 5001 to your NAS all day and the rule will be correct and useless, because the address you would connect to belongs to hundreds of other customers as well. Remote desktop, self-hosted web apps, VPN servers you run yourself, and camera recorders all break the same way.
Australian providers differ here. Some place every consumer connection behind CGNAT with no way out, some let you opt out on request, and some charge for it. These sound like the same thing and are not, which is why this tool keeps them as two separate controls.
A public IP address is one that is reachable from the internet rather than shared behind carrier-grade NAT. It might change every time your connection re-establishes. That is fine for a VPN server paired with dynamic DNS, and fine for most remote file access.
A static IP is a public address that does not change. You need it when something depends on the address staying put: a firewall allow-list at work, a mail server, a TLS certificate tied to an address, a site-to-site VPN, or a remote monitoring service that will not follow a moving target.
Because the two requirements are different, we do not merge them into one "I need a public IP" tick box. Pick the static IP control if you need the address to stay the same. Pick the dynamic public IPv4 control, under Advanced options, only if you specifically need a public address and are comfortable with it changing. Ticking both asks for both, which is a stricter request than most people intend.
Everything you reach from outside your house is served by your upload. Remote file access, remote Plex, offsite backup, camera streams, a self-hosted photo library: all of it pushes data out, and the download figure that plans are advertised on has nothing to do with it.
An NBN 100/20 plan gives 20 Mbps upload. That is roughly one remote 1080p transcode with nothing else running, and an initial cloud backup that takes weeks rather than days. Moving to a plan with 40 or 50 Mbps upload changes what is practical far more than moving from 100 to 250 Mbps download does.

Native IPv6 gives every device a genuinely routable address, which sidesteps the whole CGNAT problem for anything that speaks IPv6 at both ends. In practice that caveat matters: a phone on a mobile network, a workplace connection or a hotel Wi-Fi may still be IPv4 only, so IPv6 is a useful addition rather than a substitute for a public IPv4 address.
Provider documentation on IPv6 is patchy. Several Australian providers do offer it and have not published anything we can treat as verification, which is why ticking the IPv6 control moves those providers into "might match" rather than ruling them out. That is the honest answer: we cannot confirm it, and we are not going to pretend the absence of a document is a "no".
Most people do not need to select IPv6 at all. Tick it if you have a specific reason, such as a routed prefix for a lab, and read the unresolved group rather than treating it as an empty result.
Every claim in this tool traces back to a provider's own published documentation: plan pages, critical information summaries, support articles and terms. We record what each source says, when we read it, and how authoritative it is, then evaluate your requirements against that accepted evidence rather than against a hand-maintained table.
Three rules follow from that, and they are the reason this page looks different from a comparison site. First, unverified is not "no": a missing document puts a plan in the unresolved group with the gap named, never in the rejected pile. Second, when a provider's own sources disagree, we show both answers and pick no winner, because choosing one would be inventing certainty the provider has not given us. Third, we never convert between billing periods, so a daily price stays a daily price and is compared only against things it can honestly be compared with.
Provider terms change, and this is not real-time verification. Confirm the details with the provider before you sign up.
CGNAT (carrier-grade NAT) means your home shares one public IPv4 address with other households. Because the address is not yours alone, inbound connections cannot be forwarded to your NAS, VPN server or camera recorder. Port forwarding in your router will appear to work and still fail from outside. Some Australian providers let you opt out of CGNAT, sometimes for a fee, and this tool checks which ones have published that they do.

A plan lands in "might match" when at least one thing you asked for could not be confirmed from the provider's own documentation, and the card shows exactly which parts we could and could not verify. Marking it as unsupported would be inventing a fact the provider never stated.
Every requirement is checked against accepted evidence drawn from each provider's own published documentation. A plan only reaches your main matches when every requirement you selected is verified. If evidence is missing the plan is shown as unverified, if two of the provider's own sources disagree we show both and pick no winner, and only a verified failure puts a plan in the does-not-match group.
