How much faster can the DS225+ be?
The DS225+ produces the clearest benefit when large files move over a fully 2.5GbE local network. A 1GbE link carries a theoretical maximum of 125MB/s, while 2.5GbE raises that mathematical ceiling to 312.5MB/s before protocol overhead and other bottlenecks.At the DS223's 1GbE line-rate ceiling, transferring a 100GB project would take at least about 13 minutes 20 seconds. At Synology's advertised 217MB/s sequential write result for the DS225+, the same transfer would take about 7 minutes 41 seconds under comparable idealised conditions. These are calculations, not observed NTKIT benchmarks. Small files, slower hard drives, encryption, Wi-Fi and simultaneous users can increase both times, while a computer connected at only 1GbE removes most of the DS225+'s advantage.The decision turns on frequency as much as speed. Is RAID 1 or SHR enough to protect family photos?
No. RAID 1 or two-drive SHR can keep the NAS operating after one drive fails, but it cannot independently protect against deletion, malware, theft, fire or damage to the whole system. Keep a separate backup copy.
Will 2.5GbE make remote access faster over NBN?
Usually not by itself. Remote transfer speed is limited by the slowest link in the chain. NAS, local network, remote network and internet upload path. So an NBN upload limit can remain the bottleneck even when the DS225+ connects locally at 2.5GbE.
Which model is easier to use?
