About Need to Know IT
Independent Australian NAS and storage guidance. Who we are, what we cover, and how we operate.
About Need to Know IT
Need to Know IT is an independent Australian publishing project focused on NAS, storage infrastructure, and data management decisions. Every guide is written for people buying, deploying, or managing storage in Australia and New Zealand.
The project exists because most NAS and storage content online ignores the realities that matter in this market. Local availability, Australian warranty conditions, NBN upload constraints, power costs, and the gap between what vendors promise and what actually works in AU/NZ environments.
What we cover
We publish buyer's guides, product comparisons, how-to guides, troubleshooting references, and explainers across NAS devices, hard drives, SSDs, networking equipment, and supporting infrastructure. Content follows our documented evaluation methodology and is reviewed on an ongoing basis.
How we operate
Content is produced by the Need to Know IT Editorial Team. The team brings hands-on IT and storage operations experience to every guide, with a focus on practical deployment realities rather than spec-sheet summaries.
We use a structured editorial process:
- Recommendations are based on official vendor documentation, support resources, and publicly available specifications
- AU/NZ deployment realities are verified. Availability, warranty terms, connectivity constraints, and running costs
- Guides are updated when meaningful changes occur. New models, firmware releases, security advisories, or shifts in AU pricing and availability
- AI-assisted drafting may be used in content production; all content is fact-checked, edited for AU context, and reviewed against our evaluation standards
Independence
